A reflection of the year’s goals by ladies team manager Tony McVeigh.
“With my goals set, it started on 29th January 2013 and was to end on the 15th September 2013. 90 sessions later with 40 ladies playing competitive football with St.Finbarrs over the year we reach the last weekend of the football season with the goals firmly in place.
To win the Fr. Kelly cup in the Pre-Season tournament was a great start to year, captained by Marianne Hullen winning in such a manner in the final without conceding a score, was this the start to greater things?
Taking us to the start of the league were we’ve been captained by the duo of Sile O’Callaghan and Maire Gallagher. Together they completed a perfect season of 13 wins -0 losses. Taking a league title that has evaded us for 13 years.
Again there has been some unbelievable games of football, too many to mention though from goalkeeper and defenders scoring throughout the year it had everything of a unique team.
Which brings us to this weekend’s Championship Final, a title which has been 14 years a drift from the warmth of a Finbarr hand! I promised myself I’d give my all, I know everyone involved this weekend will do the same and make club history with their first ladies double.
The bond of this team is a different class, with dinner nights, weekends away and the occasional run under the stars, not to mention private chat groups, has left this a team to remember.
I’d like to thank all the ladies for there effort all year. It’s been a pleasure to know you’s and to have trained you’s all year, Ill say this “I hope our goals our reached this Sunday and together we celebrate in style!
Lastly there is so many to thank from the committee and the team that’s made this the easiest decision and quickest months of football and management I’ve ever had. But thank you and God willing we will be celebrating come Sunday evening.
Once a ‘Barr always a ‘Barr, signing out the tiny coach that could. Tony McVeigh”
Good luck to Tony and the ladies team this weekend and we’d like to wish the men’s intermediate team all the best as well, let’s make it two championship titles for 2013.
